Henley by election

It’s Battle Of The Miss Great Britain Beauties As Blonde Takes On Brunette In Henley By-Election

Following the high profile campaign of Gemma Garrett in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election, the nascent Miss Great Britain Party, today announces a first in electoral history by unveiling a dual candidacy for the forthcoming Henley by-election to be contested on June 26.

Fighting for the right to grab the seat formerly held by London Mayor Boris Johnson will be brunette model and authoress Louise Cole, 30 who comes from Chichester, West Sussex and blonde single mum and swimwear model Amanda Harrington, 26 from Aintree in Liverpool.

The candidates will both campaign on the Beauty for Britain manifesto adopted by the Miss Great Britain Party which seeks to empower women and to make Britain in general and Westminster in particular more glamorous places. Key manifesto pledges include the right to full tax relief on child care for all working mothers: the rights of women everywhere to equal pay: a commitment to fair pay for Britain’s armed forces; British voters to be given a referendum on continued membership of the European Union; and a pledge to launch a true British Bank Holiday to celebrate British beauty.

Underpinning the campaign is the pledge to make Westminster sexy not sleazy and to encourage voters to re-engage with politics as a means of bringing about change through beauty.

Miss Great Britain Brunette candidate Louise Cole said: “Beautiful women and those who work to make themselves look beautiful do have the power to get things done. Beauty can be the spur to action – as has been recognised in European legislatures where beautiful women abound in major government jobs and can be seen to be getting things changed in a positive way.”

Miss Great Britain Blonde candidate Amanda Harrington said: “I am not a politician and I’ll be the first to admit that it is not my specialist subject. But I pride myself on being savvy and I can be hugely influential – especially with men. Besides, it is important to keep up the recent tradition of having a blonde MP in Henley!”

The Miss Great Britain Party has been founded and is led by fashion entrepreneur Robert de Keyser who is also chairman of Miss Great Britain.

Mr De Keyser said: “We want to appeal to the millions of voters who have been reduced to cynical apathy by the dreary and sometimes rather murky world of Westminster and Brussels. We want to bring some fun, glamour and transparency to the political process but at the same time the serious message that beauty does have a real power of its own to harness and create positive change.

“Our attractive candidates will stand out – particularly in a contest like Henley where, disgracefully in the 21st century, every one of the other major parties has chosen a male candidate to try and replace a former male MP. A vote for beauty is a vote for change and for the real empowerment of women which will improve society as a whole.

“Ours is the fourth way and we believe it will appeal to male and female voters, alike.”

The Miss Great Britain Party is in the process of raising funds to make sure its campaign in Henley is a success and to bankroll future candidates in both Westminster and European elections. Anyone interested in making a donation should visit www.missgreatbritain.co.uk
